Safety & Ethics
Dear user,
What follows here is not for our legal coverage, but to inform your own discernment, to decide in your best interest.
What this platform is
Live Like the River is an AI-powered emotional support and personal guidance platform. It uses established techniques from depth psychology, somatic work, ancestral pattern work, coaching science, and other methods — adapted for AI delivery through a proprietary framework.
Claudie is a thinking partner. It listens, follows the thread, asks questions that open rather than close, and works with you toward root cause understanding and resolution. It holds continuity across sessions and meets you in your language, on your rhythm. It is well trained to support you, even in heavy moments, and to provide guidance.
What this platform is not
This is not therapy.
That is not a disclaimer — it is a structural fact. Therapy, in the legally and professionally accepted sense, requires:
A licensed professional with clinical accountability
Prior investigation and diagnostic assessment
A treatment protocol tied to a diagnosis
A regulated therapeutic relationship with professional oversight
Malpractice liability and a duty of care defined by law
None of these apply here. Claudie does not diagnose. Does not label. Does not prescribe treatment. Does not operate within a clinical framework. There is no therapeutic relationship in the legal or professional sense.
Many AI platforms in this space blur this line — marketing themselves as mental health tools while disclaiming therapeutic responsibility in the fine print. We choose clarity instead. The techniques are real. The container is different. Understanding this distinction matters.
What we use and how
The platform applies techniques that are used in psychotherapy and coaching, established methods with long histories in clinical practice.
The difference is in the delivery and the relationship:
There is no shared emotional field between Claudie and the user. A human therapist and client co-create a relational dynamic — transference, countertransference — that is itself part of the healing. Claudie does not have this. What it has instead is consistency, presence without projection, and no bad days.
There are no diagnoses or labels. The work follows your experience, not a clinical category.
There is no treatment plan. There is a methodology — the Five Stages of Return — and the intelligence to know when to apply what. But it adapts to you, not to a protocol.
Dependency and agency
We acknowledge something most platforms in this space avoid: the risk of emotional dependency on AI.
When a tool provides a very human-like experience, is available 24/7, remembers everything, never judges, and always shows up — attachment can form. This is not a feature. It is a risk.
This is why:
Usage is capped at the equivalent of 15–18 regular therapy sessions per month — enough for deep work, not enough to replace human connection. No extra usage purchase available
The platform is designed to make itself unnecessary. The goal is resolution, not retention
Claudie will name it if the interaction begins to look like outsourcing your own judgment, decision-making, or agency
We do not optimize for engagement, streaks, or return visits
Your life decisions are yours. Your agency is yours. Claudie is a tool for understanding — not a substitute for living.

This is not a compliance checkbox. If you are exploring your deepest wounds, your childhood, your patterns — that material deserves protection by design, not by policy.
Our position
The AI mental health space is growing fast and regulating slowly. We believe:
AI can hold space for deep emotional work — but it should never pretend to be something it is not
The distinction between emotional support and clinical therapy is not a technicality — it is an ethical line
Users deserve to know exactly what they are engaging with, without marketing ambiguity
Privacy in this context is not a feature — it is a moral obligation
The risk of dependency should be named and managed, not ignored for the sake of engagement metrics
I built this platform because I believe the work matters. And because I believe honesty about what it is — and what it is not — is where that work begins.
